6 Ways to Beat the Heat this Summer


With record breaking heat occurring across the country this summer it’s important to make sure you’re staying cool! Here are just a few easy ways to cool down on a hot summer day:

  1. Drink lots of water

Hot temperatures breed dehydration. It is extremely important to drink lots of water if you’re going to be out in excessive heat. Not only will this keep you from getting dehydrated but it will also cool your body down and prevent heat exhaustion.

  1. Wear loose clothing

In order to keep your body cool and stay comfortable, wearing loose clothing is essential. A combination of loose and cotton clothing is the best thing to wear in hot temperatures because it allows your body to breathe and absorbs sweat.

  1. Head to the pool

What sounds more refreshing on a hot summer day than going to the swimming pool?! Not only is it a fun activity for all ages but also a great way to beat the heat. Just make sure you don’t forget to drink water, eat, and apply sunscreen!

  1. Make refreshing snacks

Eating is just as important as drinking a lot of water on a hot day. Making cool and refreshing snacks is an easy way to cool things down. For example, freeze fruit like watermelon, grapes, or oranges. Frozen fruit is not only a healthy snack but energizing as well.

  1.  Take advantage of the cooler hours of the day

The heat of the day is usually around mid-late afternoon, so try to do outside activities in the cooler hours of the day. Early morning and late evening are the coolest times to be outside during those hot days.

  1. Cool down your bedding

There is nothing worse than trying to fall asleep when you’re burning hot. A great trick to making those hot sleepless nights a little cooler is to throw your sheets in the freezer. I bet you’re thinking “Wow, that sounds weird,” but you may think differently when you try it!
