After three consecutive victories, a title shot in the UFC lightweight division has weighed heavily on the mind of SafeAuto Fight Team Member Clay Guida. His bout against Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, famously known for his “kick heard ‘round the world,” was the opponent that Guida needed to defeat in order to get his championship shot. “The Carpenter” delivered with a unanimous victory at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday evening. He greatly utilized his wrestling skills to pull off the upset victory.
The fourth consecutive victory for Guida doesn’t guarantee a title shot for “The Carpenter.” Ben Henderson, Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard are also in the mix for the Lightweight Title. “Everyone who sees me fight knows I fight the toughest competition. I’d love to get that shot,” said Guida. Putting together four straight wins is extremely rewarding for the fighter who resides out of an RV in New Mexico. In 2009 he had lost two straight fights and heard the whispers that he was past his prime.
Clay Guida delivered during his fight on Saturday evening just as SafeAuto Insurance delivers on providing state minimum auto insurance coverage to drivers. In addition to having the red SafeAuto logo visible on his trunks as he swept the judges’ scorecards on Saturday, Guida will be starring in a national SafeAuto Insurance commercial that has just been released.
