Smartphone Apps for Every Driver

It’s 2022 which means everyone has a cell phone, but more specifically, almost everyone has a smartphone. With today’s technology, phones can do so much more than just call and text – they are now our lifelines to the world, including helping us get from Point A to Point B in the most efficient way. Check out the smartphone apps below if you’re ready to take your next trip to the next level.

Waze

Waze is great for all drivers, but especially those in bigger cities or areas that are prone to major construction or accidents. It can show you heavy traffic areas, speed traps, and can help you find alternate routes during road closures, all in real-time. Traffic information is added by other users so everything is always up-to-date. Waze is free to download and available for both iOS and Android.

ParkMobile

If you frequently find yourself paying for parking, ParkMobile is the way to go. It allows you to pay for street, lot or garage parking, or reserve parking near colleges, stadiums and other locations, right from your phone. In some cases you may also save up to 50% on parking rates by paying ahead of time. Have you ever found yourself running to add more time to a parking meter? Not anymore. With ParkMobile you can add time to your meter through the app. The app is free for iOS and Android users and can be used in over 3,000 cities and locations in the U.S.

GasBuddy

Unless you drive an electric car, you need to put gas in your car’s tank. Whether you’re looking for the best deal in town or are driving in an unfamiliar area, GasBuddy shows gas prices where you are, including where to get the best deal. With over 150,000 gas stations in its database in the U.S. and Canada, you’re bound to find one relatively close to you. Similar to Waze, users can update gas prices in real-time so the current prices are always shown. GasBuddy also has a few other helpful features like their fuel card (which could save you up to $.25/gal), tracking your driving habits and logging your fill ups, both of which can help you drive smarter. The GasBuddy app is available for free through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

PlugShare

Electric cars are growing in popularity and accessibility, which means charging stations are popping up in more areas. The easiest way to find a charging station near you? PlugShare. It’s the largest community of electric vehicle drivers and allows users to not only find charging stations, but also tell you if there are any spots left at the stations, leave reviews and photos of the stations, and connect with other EV drivers. There are over 400,000 charging stations in their database and you can filter your search based on your plug type. You can find charging stations for electric vehicles from Tesla, Nissan, Chevrolet, BMW, Ford, Fiat, Volkswagen…if it’s electric, you can find a station. Like the apps above, PlugShare is free to download for iOS and Android users. No matter where your trip is taking you – around the block or across the country – we all want to get there as quickly as possible. We also want to arrive safely, which is why you should also never drive without insurance. If you’re in the market for affordable car insurance, visit SafeAuto.com or call us at 1-800-SAFEAUTO (1-800-723-3288) today for a quote. Hopefully these apps will help you on your future trips, but we want to know – what apps do you use to help you navigate life?
