The Most Relaxing Drives in the United States

At SafeAuto Insurance, we love to provide our customers with affordable auto insurance (obviously!) but we also love to drive. Sometimes, however, driving can be a little stressful. There’s pretty much nothing worse than a long morning commute or getting stuck in traffic, but on the opposite end of the spectrum, there’s nothing better (at least in our opinion) than a relaxing drive where there’s plenty of beautiful scenery to take in.

We want to hear about our readers favorite drives! Whether it is on the way home from work on Friday or driving through the back roads to a relaxing destiantion.   • Monterey Coast – The historic 17-mile drive is a perfect way to explore the beautiful Northern California17-Mile Drive, California – coast. Be sure to stop at beaches for wildlife sightings, enjoy lunch or shopping at the Lodge at Pebble Beach, and snap a few photos of the famous “Lone Cypress.”

  • Hana Highway, Hawaii – While you’re vacationing in Maui, rent a car for a day to explore the coastal Hana Highway, one of National Geographic’s “Drives of a Lifetime.” The Hana Coast offers 52 miles of tropical forests and waterfalls, black-sand beaches, and breathtaking vistas on Maui’s Eastern shore.

  • Acadia National Park Loop Road, Maine – Drive the 27-mile Park Loop Road through Maine’s stunning Acadia National Park for a coastal ride you’ll never forget. Located on Mount Desert Island, the drive navigates through mountains, forests, lakes and rocky coastline. Stop off at the many observation points for photo opps, take a break at Sand Beach, and try some fresh seafood in the town of Bar Harbor when you’ve finished the loop.

  • Cape Cod Scenic Drive, Massachusetts – This 63-mile scenic drive along the southern coast of Cape Cod Bay — which follows Massachusetts Highway 6A to U.S. Highway 6 at Orleans — stops off at such destinations as Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown, and the Three Sisters Lighthouse. Take a break on the very tip of the cape at the drive end and enjoy the incredible vistas.

  • Pacific Coast Highway, California – One the most fabled coastal drives, California’s Highway One is the perfect way to experience the majesty of the Pacific coastline. Take a few days to drive down from San Francisco to Los Angeles through Big Sur, charming surf towns, and incredible views. Stop in San Louis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Pismo Beach along your way — and be sure to take advantage of the many photo opps.

  • State Road 30A, Florida – A scenic 28.5-mile highway along northern Florida’s panhandle, State Road 30A hugs the Gulf of Mexico coastline of Walton County. Explore white sand beaches, coastal dune lakes, and miles of hiking trails. Make sure to stop at Eden State Garden in Pt. Washington State Park to see oak trees that are more than 100 years old, and watch for beautiful roadside wildflowers all along the highway.

  • Cape May County Ocean Drive, New Jersey – Cape May County Ocean Drive, the road from Cape may to Strathmere on the New Jersey Coast, hops through the barrier islands off the Jersey shore. Signs along the road urge visitors to “follow the gull” from one island to another. The road is also home to the annual Ocean Drive Marathon held in late March.
