As your car eats up fuel, it’s also eating into your bank account, too. Gas prices are increasing as the temperature outside is decreasing, and we’re all looking for ways to save a few dollars. Luckily for us, we live in the year 2020 where technology has given us a few extra opportunities to save gas (and our money!) beyond the standard array of suggestions.
Hack 1: Break out your GPS.
It’s rare to climb into a car these days without having a smartphone on hand. At our fingertips, we hold the key to saving money on fuel. Our GPS systems are our friends when it comes to figuring out ways to save gas. Whether you choose to use Google Maps, Waze, or another GPS system; the advantage in doing so is nearly always the same. When you find the quickest route to your destinations, you spend less time on the road.
Less time on the road means less time breaking, less mileage, and more money saved. Even if you know where you’re headed, by checking in with your GPS ahead of time, you can avoid traffic and find shortcuts that will help you save fuel for your next trip.
Hack 2: GasBuddy is your friend.
There are plenty of great apps out there that are designed to help you find the cheapest gas near you. One such app is GasBuddy. We recommend this app because it is the leading source to find out gas prices in real-time. And as far as cheap gas finders go, this one has excellent reviews with almost a full five-star rating. Use this app to your advantage by finding gas stations with cheap gas prices along your usual routes. By doing this, you’ll garner more savings than driving across town to save a few cents.
check out other apps, too, that share gas prices, such as:
Not everyone has the option to work remotely each day, but if you can, it’s a great way to save gas. Today, technology has progressed so much that many jobs can be done from the comfort of our homes. By cutting back on your commute, you’ll save money on gas and precious time that otherwise would’ve been spent on the road.
If you’re unable to work remotely, consider starting a carpool at your workplace. By sharing the commute, you can save money on fuel and mileage on your car.
How to save gas in other ways.
We’ve covered the ways that new technology can help save money on fuel. However, there are a few other changes that you could make to further help you make your wallet feel a little bit heavier.
Perform regular maintenance on your car.
When our cars wear down, they tend to eat up more fuel. Make sure your oil is changed regularly and your tires are properly treaded and inflated. By keeping your vehicle in tip-top shape, it will stay at the top of its fuel efficiency for longer.
