World's Most Dangerous Road

We’ve all been on many roads that just seem outright dangerous. From not enough lighting to bad maintenance, there are many factors that make a road feel like it’s either safe to drive on or not. This very fact got us thinking about what the most dangerous road in the world actually is. What we came up with is what’s called the “Bolivia Death Road” (the real name is Yungas Road), which is a 43 mile road leading from La Paz to Coroico in Bolivia.

Death Road

Yungas Road (it’s official name) is legendary for it’s extreme danger and in 1995, the Inter-American Development Bank christened it as the world’s most dangerous road. It is estimated that between 200-300 travelers are killed yearly along the road.

The road has a very beautiful landscape and view, however, because of the extreme drop-offs up to 2,000 feet, the single-lane width, the low-visibility during bad weather, and the lack of guardrails, the road is very dangerous.

On this particular road, the downhill driver never has the right of way and must move to the outer edge of the road when someone is coming from the other direction.

If you ever decide to take a drive on the “Bolivia Death Road,” we urge you to be careful. Regardless of where you’re driving, it’s always important to pay attention to the road nad be careful.
